The Callari’s Mission to Cebu

Having so many opportunities for ministry involvement in Cebu, Philippines can be both exciting and exhausting! There are many different things that we could be doing, and so for Vanessa and I the questions rapidly changed from “What can we do and who can we reach?” to “What are our primary ministry goals and how do we remain focused on them?” With these questions in mind, we would like to further outline our purpose and goals for our ministry in Cebu.

Our Primary Purpose: Church Planting

Our primary goal in Cebu is to Church plant among the middle class.

  • We will be using the house Church model to evangelize and introduce the principles of the Church to those who are not Christians. This will allow a natural growth from a friendly group that gathers, to believers being baptized, and the Church coming together in the home.
  • The middle class of Cebu needs further evangelization, and the non-threatening invitation to share a meal and fellowship in a fellow middle-class member’s home is an excellent tool for a ministry to an
    under-evangelized social class.

Our Secondary Purpose: Cedar Global Private School

  • The Cedar Global-managed K-12 school, Golden Gate Children’s House, is in need of a “Campus Minister” or “Director of Spiritual Life” to help them transition from a private school to a private Christian school.
  • To that end, we will be developing a chapel curriculum for the schools, teaching a Bible-centered course, and minister to the male and female staff members who are not yet baptized believers.
  • Working in this capacity with the schools gives us a title and label that the Filipino people can relate to, and make us “Middle Class” as well.
  • This is a tremendous opportunity to teach and work with young people who may have otherwise limited contact with the Bible and the Gospel.
  • Through working with the students we will also be able to minister to their parents and families and work towards Christ-centered community transformation.

Our Tertiary Purpose: Church Maturation

  • In our roles as church planters and a campus minister, we still desire to help grow and encourage the local established Church as much as we can.
  • What will remain foremost in our minds as we form our strategy for this is:
    • The local Church must not become dependent on us, but rather remain as our “shoulder to shoulder” partners in ministry.
    • Our ministry and the strategies we use must be culturally relevant and sensitive, and remain grounded in biblical Truth
