Mutare School of Preaching

Mutare School of Preaching

Mutare School of Preaching (MSOP) was established by missionaries in 1958 at present day Nhowe Mission and was first called Nhowe Bible College (1958-1970). In 1971 it was relocated to its present site in Mutare.  The mission of the school is to train preachers in the teaching and interpretation of the Bible. The college draws its members from local and regional  congregations of the churches of Christ.

To date, the school’s mandate has significantly broadened to encompass the full sphere of training of preachers and their wives.  Also, MSOP offers lectureships to elders, deacons and other congregational members of the churches of Christ in Zimbabwe and their neighboring countries. The college is also committed to the development of meaningful projects for self-sustainability for its financial needs rather than the traditional philosophy of waiting to receive donations from abroad.

The college continues to receive foreign financial aid from Hillcrest Church of Christ – USA (since 1963), African Mission Fund – Dyersburg Church of Christ, Fellowship Church of Christ – USA and also from local financial support from most congregations of the churches of Christ in Zimbabwe and other individuals.

The Board of Trustees is an eight-member board comprised of the chairman, the secretary, the treasurer and five board members. This board is comprised of members with  diversified academic and educational experiences ranging from preaching, academics, banking and industry (entrepreneurs).  The operational team includes 12 staff members: the college principal (director), who is the team leader, six lecturers, one secretary, one cook, one general hand and two security guards.
