Q & A In His Words
What shapes your faith?
When I was 13 years old, I felt God call me to be a preacher. In 1998, I came to ACU to pursue this dream studying preaching ministry. In 2000, I received an even greater calling from God when he led me to Heather, my wife. We are a blended family. Heather was a widow and her late husband James was my best friend. In June of 2000, I not only became a husband, but I was also blessed to become a father to David and Allison. God would later bring Micah and Caleb into our family.
Tell us about you and your family.
Our son David (ACU ’13) is married to Kari (ACU ’12) and they live in Abilene. Our daughter, Allison (ACU ’16), after graduating early is working at the Waco Montessori. Micah (14) is an avid runner who loves Cross Country. Caleb (13) loves playing football and is the quarterback for the Texas Wind Jr. High.
My wife Heather is the heart of our family. God could not have given me a better partner in life and ministry. Not only does she maintain balance in our ministry family, but she also home schools our children and has been caring for her mother.
How would you describe your ministry focus?
My ministry begins here. As a family we have witnessed God bring beauty from ashes. Even in the darkest times, God is our hope. As the Psalmist writes, “One may experience sorrow during the night, but joy arrives in the morning” (Ps. 30:5b). We know what it is like to live in both seasons. In preaching, I seek to inspire others to know the hope that we all have though the grace of Jesus Christ.
