Ministry Areas

The nursery and cradle roll classes are for children from birth up to age two.  Infants may be brought to the nursery ten minutes before worship services on Sundays or ten minutes before class time on Wednesday evenings where they will be well-cared for and taught a Bible lesson.

Our Bible Class, which we refer to as Cradle Roll, is very hands on and uses many songs to teach about God’s creation, care, and love.

Cradle Roll class times are Sunday mornings after worship services and at 7 PM on Wednesday nights.

TLC takes place during Sunday morning worship time and is designed for children ages two through four.  Parents are dismissed at the appropriate time to take their child to TLC, which is located in the Children’s Wing.   The children sing songs, learn a Bible lesson, are fed a snack, and complete a simple craft. Afterward, parents pick up their children and take them to Bible Class.

Developmentally appropriate classes for children ages two to five are in the Children’s Wing.  Because children at this level learn through play, opportunities to do so are worked into the lessons for a portion of the time.  Children graduate to each class as they have a birthday.

Bible Class takes place after the Sunday morning sermon and on Wednesday nights at 7 PM.  Our kindergarten curriculum is Karyn Henley’sBible Time for Kindergarten.  Children at this age are already having very thoughtful questions about God. Through the use of this curriculum, our kindergarteners develop a sense of God’s purpose for them and the world.

Prek and kindergarten classes have memory verses that they can recite to our Memory Verse Grandma, in the hall.

Bible Class takes place after the Sunday morning sermon and on Wednesday nights at 7 PM.  Our kindergarten curriculum is Karyn Henley’sBible Time for Kindergarten.  Children at this age are excited about learning and discovering!   Through the use of this curriculum, our kindergarteners develop a sense of purpose for all that God has created, including themselves.  One memory verse is learned each quarter.

Bible Class takes place after the Sunday morning sermon and on Wednesday nights at 7 PM.   The curriculum used for the Elementary Program is Faith Foundations by Sally Frazier.  The curriculum for the school year is as follows:

  • First Grade:  Genesis-Joshua
  • Second Grade:  Judges-Malachi
  • Third Grade:  The Gospels
  • Fourth Grade:  Acts
  • Fifth Grade:  Romans-Revelation

Each the summer we combine classes and have a different topic of study. Service projects are also a part of the summer curriculum.

Listen to “The Books of the Old Testament Song.”

Incorporated into the PreK through Elementary Curriculum is a Memory Verse Program and The Faithful Servant Program. Children recite their memory verses to the hall monitor before or during class time. In the Faithful Servant Program, children and parents are given choices of Bible Study and service opportunities they can complete in one year’s time. As they memorize scripture and/or complete activities through the Faithful Servant Program, points are earned. These two programs are designed to enhance learning and training within the home and community. At the end of the summer a book will be given to those children who earned the required points.

Each summer Hillcrest offers a special time when children can focus on a Bible theme and enjoy experiences, crafts, lessons, and skits centered on that summer’s particular VBS theme.  Online registration will begin in April.

Hillcrest VBS – June 18-22

Each July a day camp is offered for children having completed the first grade up through fifth grade.  Bible lessons, crafts, games, swimming, and worship time are always a part of the schedule. Online registration is mailed to our members. Contact us if your child is interested in attending, and we will gladly email you a registration form. The cost of the camp is $55.00.

Come dressed up in your favorite costume! Candy and safe fun waits for your family during this special evening each late October. The children may trick-or- treat through a circle of cars in the parking lot, and then go into the gym for carnival fun!  The time and date will be on the church marque.

Every December Hillcrest offers the community a free pancake and sausage breakfast, craft activities, and an opportunity to meet Santa and have a picture made. Look for times and dates on the church marque.

In the early part of the year we like to provide a nice meal to our teachers to say “Thank you!” for taking the time to teach!  God has blessed Hillcrest with many gifted people and we want to thank God for his provision.

This after-school class for kindergarten and elementary aged girls meets the second and fourth Tuesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 PM, September through April. The girls build friendships as they study the Bible, complete a craft, and participate in other fun activities. Call the church office if you are interested in your child participating.  Mothers and older sisters are welcome to join and assist.
